It is early September 1944 and in the West the Allied armies are advancing inexorably towards the borders of the Reich. It seems like the War could be over by Christmas. But then, a 16 year old boy on the coast of Nazi occupied Holland witnesses the launch of Hitler's ultimate secret terror weapon, the V2 rocket. Across the North Sea, the great city of London and its 8 million inhabitants lie prostrate at the mercy of the rocket bombs. Churchill is adamant they must be destroyed. Radio signals are received from a "sleeper" agent in enemy territory, and RAF photo reconnaisance locates the launch site. An elite commando team parachutes in to link up with the Dutch Resistance and sabotage the weapons. But sadistic SS Sturmbannfuhrer Aldorf and his murderous sidekick Zharko have other ideas, and a deadly game of ‘cat and mouse’ develops. The tension builds inexorably with every twist and turn, as it hurtles towards an adrenaline pumping and explosive climax..........
V2 A World War II Thriller Dave Davies Books
The beginning was great: a small town occupied Netherlands, the setting and the details seemed authentic. Then came the arrival of a V2 battalion and the real story began. Scenes shifted to London, Bletchley Park, Downing Street and it became increasingly apparent that the author knew much less about those locations and the military there than about Holland. Meanwhile, back in Holland, a psychopathic SS officer took complete control of the town, committed atrocities, and exposed some disgusting sexual habits. The plot had many twists but these were less and less likely or credible. I gave the book two stars because I did finish reading it and it does have potential. It would be worth rewriting it with a professional editor and with more research on SOE operations.Product details

V2 A World War II Thriller Dave Davies Books Reviews
I really enjoyed this book, although there were times it did seem a little too tedious. The story was plausible, but I felt that it struggled toward the end. It was almost as if the author brought it almost to conclusion and then wasn't sure just how to end it. Still, it is well written and well worth the time to read. I recommend it.
I enjoyed this book for the most part. I love WWII stories so I thought it was fun and a fast read. The beginning started off slow, but once I got into it, the story help my interest. I cannot say it is an amazing book, but if you like this kind of story, get it. I wold probably read another book by this author, but not right away.
This is an excellent WW II story with a difference in that all the action takes place after the D-Day landings. The story is filled with suspense and has plenty of twists to the plot. Great description of the atmosphere in a small town in Holland used as a launching site for some of the V2 rockets and the fear in London where they fell without warning.
A great story idea with appeal for most readers. For the most part the characters were well developed and had interesting personal stories.
I don't know about the sex scenes with the female characters. A times they were stick figures placed in the story to move things along. The author moved the story along building dramatic tension and, at times, things got a little muddled towards the conclusion.
Still, a fun read.
I got the goosebumps on the last chapter!! Very good read... very entertaining!
We already have so many images from the old movies in our heads that makes this book a very fast page turner. Davies creates a fascinating story based on a cleverly woven mixture of fantasy and fact. Be in no doubt that the story is fiction but the last months of the Nazi occupation of Holland are vividly recreated, in particular, the all-pervasive atmosphere of paranoia and fear.
Well written and researched, with a strong plot, bringing together drama, history and tangible emotion, this book comes highly recommended for all of us WW2 movie junkies!
What's so good about it is the clever way that Davies seamlessly weaves his fictional storyline into the factual historical background, so you're never fully aware where the one ends and the other begins.
Very entertaining, with twists and turns that were not always obvious yet not too contrived either. Reminiscent of Higgins and Follett at their best, only grittier.
I enjoyed this WWII thriller with spies, SS, and ingenues. I love that it was set in Holland, a country we don't often associate with WWII. I also loved the well-crafted characters that the author created, all with their own faults that lead them to fight, resist, or cooperate by their own morals.
There is a lot of action, a lot of intense thrills, mystery, sex, and violence. I liked all of it except the hokey sex scene described like a battle. I liked the conclusion but was hoping to see more of the heroes survive. This made the ending bittersweet.
Enjoyable but intense read.
an interesting story about how the British went about shutting down the v-2 bombing of London near the end of world war II. the interplay between the dutch resistance, the dutch Nazi sympathizers and the germans; the germans between themselves and between the dutch citizens in the little town that they occupied; and the jolly good old stiff upper lip brits. full of twist and turns among the good guys and the bad guys makes for an intriguing tale and an ending which is poignant if not altogether satisfying. this book is scary when one considers that the v-2 was the predecessor to today's drone though not nearly as sophisticated in terms of its ability to actually hit the targets they were aiming at. we've come a long way baby....or have we?
