I downloaded this book when it was available for free a while ago, but just now got around to read it. I started it and couldn't put it down until I was done. Definitely hooked me and kept me interested.

First--would like to commend the author for taking the time to either edit or have someone edit. Grammar errors were minimal, if any, and definitely did not hinder my enjoyment of the book. This was my first exposure to this author and I look forward to reading more :)

Sebastian is a vampire, and not just any vampire--he is a Prince. Laurel, a mortal, finds herself being stalked and meets Sebastian under these circumstances. As always, love is never easy and between vampire and mortal even more difficult.

Without giving much away, characters were well developed and backgrounds were explained without being boring. The time travel doesn't happen until much later in the book, and while it is part of the story I wouldn't say it is a 'time travel' book. At least for me, I think of the Tardis....which I love, but don't really like reading that genre. Definitely an HEA, and could possibly be done into more books---but at over 400 pages this book leaves one quite satisfied. Nothing felt 'rushed' or things 'conveniently' occurring.

P.S. I am definitely biased on the vampire name---Sebastian Xavier Thorn......Sebastian and Xavier are names of 2 of my kids LOL....was waiting for the third name to show somewhere....

RECOMMEND: YES
PRICE: definitely worth the $3.99 at over 400 pages, great story, and not needing editing
ReRead: I usually do not re-read, but I might make an exception for this one. I am still slightly in awe that I did enjoy it as much as I did.

Yeah, there's time travel, but it doesn't really change up the genre plot much. The time travel angle is just not up to snuff as far as mking this book stand out from the three million other books with this plot line out there.

*slight spoiler*
For instance, the heroine goes back in time, but she makes no effort to fit in, and she's covered for by a native of that time, for no particular reason. There's no real relationship there at all, this secondary character just goes around lying for her for a couple of weeks.

As for the relationship, it's the typical millennium old vampire falls for mortal for no particular reason, she does stupid stuff that messes up his business, he fixes it for her and loves her forever. There's just not a lot of juice left in this plot line for me, there has to be something extra there, and there just isn't in this book.
This is a typical paranormal vampire/human romance in that the main protagonist is a human who falls in love with a vampire. But it is less than typical when the romance leads to time travel and King Henry's Court. The difference made it interesting and gave a new twist on what could have been a tired story.

Laurel is from a farm in Kansas. Headed to NYC with her best friend they have made a stop over in a small town in order to work and save the money to find an apartment and jobs in the big city. They work in a bar which has an unusual cast of characters working and frequenting it.

Sebastian is a vampire, not just any vampire but the Prince of Europe. He has a special attachment to the area Laurel is living in so keeps a home there and visits often. On one of his visits he meets Laurel in a cemetery where he rescues her from a man who is following her, walks her home and begins a romance with her. The romantic tension builds slowly and believably most of the time. One of the best things about this book was the slow build up. It gave time for the characters to develop and for the reader to care about them.

The time travel scenes were both funny and tragic. There was enough detail to make you wonder how you would do if suddenly taken back in time. No plastic toothbrushes, no toilet facilities, no deodorant. Oh My! Is our protagonist able to blend in with a society she is totally unfamiliar with?

You will just have to read it and find out.

This book pulls you in like Brenda Joyce's 'Dark' books (in time-travel ways) and also like other vampire romance books Katie MacAlister but more dark and bloody. I got this book for free and half the books I find are a disappointment but this book I am NOT disappointed. I don't want to give away too much of the complex plot - Laurel Mayfield nearly gets attacked by a weirdo guy in the beginning of the book and Sebastian saves her, intensely and passionately attracted to her but not so much to be obsessive. With a psycho-ex-boyfriend calling her all the time, Sebastian draws the line and finally has her move in with him.
It's what happens to the ex that I find hard to believe (shouldn't Laurel find out somehow??? and maybe relieved or concerned that the cops may find out of Sebastian's involvement - this happens before she finds out he's a vampire).
Laurel is compelled by a hidden rival of Sebastian into going into the past and bringing human Sebastian back, screws up the timeline. With the lives Sebastian saved as a vampire, Laurel has the hard choice to let human Sebastian go back to his death but the events after are a little surprising.

The ending was okay except there COULD have been a real plot twist at the end, like she becomes pregnant with his child (because she did have sex with the human Sebastian of the past, logically it IS possible - based on how much) - but alas there isn't. Now if they did a spinoff of this book of a friend of hers that gets swept into their paranormal world and introduced THAT plot twist with some sort of vampire intrigue - that would be interesting.
