How did a young girl who came through social services and foster care end up in the art world with a multi-million dollar gallery and consulting business? Through the kindness of strangers, fierce determination, and a survivor’s sheer will, Bridgette Mayer’s is a success story for the ages. In her inspirational memoir of gross neglect, violent abuse, and ultimately redemption, she shares her journey from the projects of Jersey City to eventually becoming one of Philadelphia’s most celebrated gallery owners.
By following her heart and passion for art, Mayer’s interests evolved from a means of escape into her salvation and her security. She used her inherent self-assurance, natural curiosity, and scrapper work ethic to overcome the damage inflicted on her as a child and create a harmonious, rewarding, and charitable life—for herself and the artists she represents.
The Art Cure is for anyone who aspires to a career in the arts and who has been told it’s too difficult or impractical to pursue. With bravery and tenacity, anyone can achieve the life of their dreams, no matter how out of reach it may seem. Mayer offers readers a bridge to color and a lifeline of hope for the future.

As a professional podcaster and business consultant, I'm always looking for inspiring stories of how entrepreneurs got started, where they came from and what they've become. Bridgette's story is amazing and delivers lessons and insights that you do not want to miss. After reading the book I had the privilege to interview her on my show ( Peak Performers Podcast ) and got even more of the incredible back story, insights and lessons. This is a MUST READ. It's never where you start or what happened along the way that determines your outcome. What you decide and commit to creating is what will matter in the end. Thor ConklinProduct details

The Art Cure A Memoir of Abuse and Fortune edition by Bridgette Mayer Arts Photography eBooks Reviews
Not the book I was expecting... no mention of her first husband or any other relationships, I guess they had little impact on her life?
A must read! The honesty and courage to share the experience is exceptional. The author describes a view which is helpful to all. She examples repeatedly the great principles to live by and directly connects them to personal experience. There are not enough good words to describe this book.
I haven’t read this yet because I’m perplexed about my copy being printed backwards. I’ll probably keep it and read it from the back to front but is anyone else’s like this? Odd find.
Mayer's story is inspirational. She never relied on the good fortune that lifted her out of her horrible early years of life, but rather used it as a spring board for the hard work that brought her to her current success. A great read for inspiration as well as for an inside view of the art world from the perspective of someone who understands art from multiple perspectives. Highly recommend.
This book is a must read! I was moved, inspired, and after reading the book, I wish there was more! I read this book hoping to be inspired as an artist... I instead was gifted with inspiration for this life's journey. Inspired by Bridgette's strength and her Mom's passion and unwillingness to accept what was clearly wrong. Like I said... It is a MUST READ!
What a wonderful and inspiring book of resilience. Defying the odds, Bridgette was able to escape an overwhelmingly abusive childhood to build a new life. Through grit, determination and ambition, she has overcame obstacles throughout her life and career, and build an amazingly successful art gallery business. Her achievements on their own are noteworthy - in light of her stark beginnings, they are incredible. A story worth reading and reflecting upon.
I stumbled upon this book from a friend sharing it on Facebook and I'm so happy I did. If ever there was a book about the underdog who comes out on top this is one of them. A story about a extraordinary young woman whose start in life is horrifying. She comes from the worst type of abusive parent, is neglected and eventually abandoned. Where can that road lead when that is your beginning? This is a story of triumph; of living your life to its fullest potential in every aspect; one which shows that when you listen to your inner voice, it will lead you on an amazing journey. I won’t give away all of the details because you absolutely have to read this for yourself.
